Pink Floyd – Week 16 progress

Week 16 has brought some good progress. Most of the body is ready for paint. We completed painting the underside, engine bay, interior and trunk in Blitz Black.  We have the red and white paint to do the exterior next.

We completed the frame rust repair and it now has a fresh coat of blitz black paint, the rear end is installed and the new front suspension is almost finished. Next will be installing the new stainless steel brake lines.

We still need to paint the motor and bell housing in Chevy Orange but we did finish painting the exhaust manifolds with POR 15 grey high temp paint.

We ordered new tires and wheels this week. We are going with 17×7 chrome Torq Thrust II wheels with 215/55/17 Falcon tires.

New Front SuspensionTest Fit

We did a test fit on the new front suspension test fit tonight. Over all it went in very easy, have a few items to work on still but it is very close to being complete. I installed the upper and lower A Arms, ball joints, steering knuckles and the Rack and Pinion. Still need to install the coil over shocks.

Pink Floyd Is Alive!

We finally took the car for the first drive! We now have 45 miles on it and after fighting several leaks we think it has stabilized.

Frame Assembly and Parts Painting Begins

Now that the body is almost ready for paint I had to finish up the frame repair and paint work and get it out of the painting area and back in the shop for assembly. The frame repair work turned out great, should be good for another 50 years.

As you can see form the additional pictures we have media blasted and painted lots of parts. We still have more to go but we put a big dent in this effort.

Floyd – Week 15 (Frame repair COMPLETE)

As week 15 comes to a close we made great progress on the rust repair in the frame. There was a little more damage than I originally thought but welder Dave did a great job fixing up the bad areas with new steel. We also ended up installing a new rear cross member. I have included several pictures below of the frame while we had it cut open for repair.

We were able to coat all of the parts Debby has been sand blasting including the frame with POR 15 to protect them from rust.  We have parts hanging all over the place on coat hangers in the paint area. I am hoping to get a top coat of the simi-flat black tomorrow and hopefully later this week I can start putting the driver train together. We also have to paint the engine and a few other items Chevy Orange.

I tried to get the flywheel resurfaced just to find out it was too far gone. Not a bad thing, $45 to resurface and it was only $86 for a brand new one.

Still have lots of new parts arriving, ordered a stainless brake line kits with a dual master cylinder. Also got my new 1 inch lower springs and a 1 inch drop block kit. We are going to see what the car looks like lowered 2 inches.

The body is in the 3rd application of primer so it is getting real close for paint. I picked up the Torch Red paint with Polar white for the side coves. The color is going to look awesome.

Frame Work Continues

We ran into another small snag this week. After we got the frame back form blasting I noticed a few areas where rust holes had begun. I went ahead and spayed POR15 semi-gloss black on the parts of the chassis that will not need repair work. I also sprayed a bunch of chassis brackets.

I have welder Dave scheduled to knock out the work on Saturday, he will fix up the frame to make it good for another 50 years 🙂

Chassis Work Begins (Week 13)

Week 13 was productive. The first round of block sanding is complete and the car is now in the second round of primer.

We also finished removing the rest of the parts from the chassis and gave it a good pressure wash before sending it in for media blasting. Once the chassis is back we will put a good coat of semigloss POR15 on it.

Debby spent a lot of time with the blast cabinet this weekend on the smaller parts so now I have some POR15 work to do.

We also got most of the chrome back so we can use it for final fitting. Most of it turned out great but I do need to take a few parts back for better polishing.

Floyd – NOW IN PRIMER

We finally got the car in primer today. My makeshift paint booth worked great, nice cross flow and no dust in the primer. I used 5 box fans across the garage door to exhaust the air and that seemed to work great.
